Fortuna - legal matter & compliance platform
A centralized matter dashboard and audit-ready activity log, designed and prototyped in under three months to help win a competitive pre-sales evaluation with one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers.
Thousands of active legal matters, no single source of truth.
Fortuna's in-house legal team was managing thousands of active legal matters with contracts, disputes, regulatory filings, across email threads, shared spreadsheets, and disconnected tools. There was no single source of truth for who owned a matter, what stage it was in, or whether a compliance deadline was at risk. For a company Fortuna's size, that wasn't just an efficiency problem, it was real audit and compliance exposure.
Hence Technologies was competing for this contract during a live procurement evaluation. We didn't have a signed deal yet - we had weeks to design and prototype something credible enough to win one.
Visibility was the gap - not process.
I interviewed legal ops stakeholders to map the actual matter lifecycle: intake, assignment, active tracking, resolution, and compliance sign-off.
- People didn't need a new process, they needed to see the one they already had.
- Resource were not directed to where they were needed most.
- Any tool that couldn't produce a clean audit trail on demand was a non-starter for a legal buyer at this scale, trust had to be designed in from the first screen.
Design the workflow people already had - just make it visible.
- Built a centralized matter dashboard as the home base - status, owner, and deadline visible at a glance for every active matter.
- Replaced ad hoc email intake with structured intake forms, so nothing entered the system with missing information.
- Designed an audit-ready activity log on every matter, so compliance sign-off didn't require reconstructing history from inboxes.
- Used role-based views so in-house counsel, paralegals, and business stakeholders each saw only what was relevant to them.
structured intake
A matter enters with the required fields captured up front - nothing missing.
centralized dashboard
Status, owner, and deadline visible at a glance across all 6 business units.
active tracking
Every action on the matter builds the audit trail as work happens, not after.
compliance sign-off
An audit-ready history on demand - no reconstructing events from inboxes.
Design credibility, inside a live sales cycle.
Enterprise legal buyers evaluate trust and clarity as rigorously as functionality - a beautiful workflow means nothing if it can't survive an audit. Compressed sales-cycle timelines also forced real prioritization discipline: solve the core workflow completely before touching edge cases.
